Let’s talk about one of the biggest challenges in running your own business: conquering your to-do list.
You know what I mean. One day, you’re slicing through your “things to get done list” like a riding lawnmower, and the next morning you wake up and all you see is a never-ending list of tasks.
And, in a moment of self-truth, you realize that it’s time to take a break.
But you know, even as you sip lattes in the afternoon sunshine, that your to-do list is lurking in your home office, waiting for you to come home so it can suck you in again.
Mind Over Matter
So how do you defeat that to-do list monster once and for all? It’s easier than you think.
Use your time away to change your mindset.
Take a moment to step back and appreciate how far you’ve come. It’s amazing how much you have accomplished in the last month, six months, or even a year.
A Little Help From A Friend
If you have trouble doing this on your own, I highly recommend connecting with a non-business friend that you haven’t seen in a couple of months.
The beauty in talking a non-business friend is that they will be amazed and awed with what you’ve done in your business since the two of you last spoke. What seems a minor triumph to you will be majorly impressive to your friend.
Because the truth of the matter is, you live in your business world day in and day out. You’re always focused on what’s coming next, and what needs to be done to make it happen. It takes the eyes of someone outside your world to help you sit back and realize that yeah, you’ve done an awful lot to be proud of.
And when you change your mindset to being proud of what you’ve done, you come back to your to-do list with a fresh wave of inspiration and determination. Your list hasn’t gotten any shorter, but how you view it has changed. It’s no longer an enemy – it’s a partner that will help you go forward with your business.
